ALPA Welcomes U.S. Senate Introduction of Safe Skies Act of 2013
All Airline Pilots Must Be Equally Protected from Fatigue

WASHINGTON – The Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA) today issued the following statement regarding the introduction in the U.S. Senate of the Safe Skies Act (S. 1692) by Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.), Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.), and Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.).

“The Safe Skies Act of 2013 will ensure that both passenger and all-cargo pilots are equally protected from fatigue and that the entire U.S. air transportation system benefits from one level of safety.

“Science shows that airline pilots don’t suffer from fatigue differently based on whether they fly passengers or cargo on their aircraft. ALPA commends Sen. Boxer and Sen. Cantwell for helping to ensure that all airline pilots have the same level of protection from fatigue by applying the Federal Aviation Administration’s new flight- and duty-time limits and minimum rest requirements to all pilots.

“We urge every U.S. Senator to support this important aviation safety legislation for all who rely on air transportation.”

Founded in 1931, ALPA is the world’s largest pilot union, representing nearly 50,000 pilots at 32 airlines in the United States and Canada. Visit the ALPA website at www.alpa.org.
