FDX MEC Hosts Family Awareness Event at the Memphis Zoo

MEMPHIS, Tenn.—With the holiday season in full swing, on Sunday night the FDX Master Executive Council (MEC) of the Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l, took full advantage of Zoo Lights, the annual light show held during the holiday season at the Memphis Zoo.

In their continuing series of Family Awareness events, the FDX MEC hosted over 1100 pilots as well as fellow FDX employees from Aircraft Maintenance, Flight Operations, Global Operations, Jumpseat Control, Weather, and many other departments for a night of holiday cheer. The MEC also invited their union brothers and sisters from the local Memphis ATC and ARTCC facilities to partake in the evening’s festivities.

MEC chairman Captain Scott Stratton said, “This time of year it is easy for us in the express freight industry to be caught up in the daily routine of delivering the Purple Promise to our customers. This kind of family-oriented event allows us to pause and spend some joyful time with our families and coworkers.” Stratton went on, “It is even better that we were joined by FDX employees from numerous areas of our corporation, as well as those with whom we work with at the Memphis ATC/ARTCC facilities.”

Visits with Santa Claus, magic shows, and ice skating were but a few of the activities the crowd enjoyed. Family Awareness Committee chairman First Officer Pat Meagher commented, “The ice skating rink got a good working Sunday night. I am sure there are a few sore backsides today, but many happy memories spent racing around on the ice. The families all had a good time.”

The chilly night closed with time spent by the fire in the Teton Trek Lodge, sipping hot chocolate, and regaling on the night’s fun. Stratton commented, “We have much to be thankful for as we close out the year. Regardless of what each of us does for a living, in the end, we do so to better our family’s lives.”
