ALPA Congratulates Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx on Confirmation

WASHINGTON—Capt. Lee Moak, president of the Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l. (ALPA), congratulates Secretary Anthony Foxx on his U.S. Senate confirmation as the head of the Department of Transportation.

“Safety and security are paramount to ensuring the future of our nation’s aviation industry. We must also look toward investing in the industry’s infrastructure so that the aviation industry may continue to thrive. Currently, we’re at a critical juncture, facing unprecedented threats from state-owned foreign airlines competing on an unequal playing field and gaining inroads to our nation’s passengers and routes at the expense of U.S. carriers and U.S. jobs. We also face an increasingly unreasonable financial burden of taxes and fees compared to other industries. Addressing these and other challenges will take strong leadership and all invested parties working together toward common goals. We congratulate Secretary Foxx on his confirmed appointment to the Department of Transportation and are committed to working with him to ‘level the playing field’ for U.S. airlines to compete effectively and succeed in the global arena.”

Founded in 1931, ALPA is the world’s largest pilots union, representing more than 50,000 pilots at 33 airlines in the United States and Canada.
