ALPA Supports ICAO’s Leading Malaysia Flight 17 Crash Investigation
WASHINGTON––The Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA) issued the following statement regarding the International Civil Aviation Organization’s arrival on site at the Malaysia Flight MH17 crash location.
“The Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA) strongly supports a thorough investigation of the downing of
Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 led by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). ICAO, which is the international aviation component of the United Nations, is an extremely knowledgeable and objective organization relied upon worldwide for its leadership in setting international aviation standards.
“ICAO representatives in the field should be given full access to all recorded information from the aircraft, including flight data recorders, maintenance recorders, and other recorded data from aircraft systems.
“With its presence at the MH17 crash location, ICAO will be able to assist in the dignified recovery of the victims and will be positioned to lead a thorough and objective investigation to the benefit of all who depend on air transportation.”
