MINNEAPOLIS -- Sun Country Airlines pilots, who are represented by the Air Line Pilots Association, International, will conduct informational picketing January 17 in Milwaukee to demonstrate their frustration with the company’s refusal to seriously address the most important issues in their negotiations for a new contract.

Contract negotiations began in May 2000. More than eight months of negotiations have failed to produce any significant progress on economic issues such as pay rates and retirement. The pilots filed for federal mediation with the National Mediation Board on Nov. 20, 2000, but progress continues to be slow even in the federally-administered talks.

"Sun Country pilots are picketing to publicize our interest in achieving a negotiated agreement with management that provides the deserved improvements to pilot pay and retirement in this contract," said Capt. George Barbes, chairman of the Sun Country ALPA unit.
