Sun Country ALPA Pilots To Hold Informational Picketing
MINNEAPOLIS -- Sun Country Airlines pilots, who are represented by the Air Line Pilots Association, International, will conduct informational picketing and leafleting today, 2-5 p.m., at the Hubert H. Humphrey Terminal in Bloomington, Minn., to demand that their management seriously address the most important issues in their ongoing negotiations for a new contract.
The informational picketing and leafleting will be held concurrent with Sun Countrys expected arrival of the its first Boeing 737-800 New Generation aircraft.
Contract negotiations began in May 2000, but more than six months of direct negotiations have failed to produce any significant progress on economic issues such as pay rates and retirement. The pilots have been in federal mediation since November 2000.
Formed in 1931, ALPA is the worlds oldest and largest pilots union, representing 59,000 airline pilots at 49 carriers in the United States and Canada.
