HONOLULU---Leaders of the Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA) unit at Hawaiian Airlines elected a new chairman last Friday effective immediately. The Hawaiian pilots’ governing body elected First Officer John Tindall chairman of the Hawaiian Airlines Master Executive Council (MEC) in succession of Captain Kirk McBride, who served two-and-a-half years in that position.

"The responsibilities of being MEC chairman unquestionably are immense," said First Officer Tindall. "I am grateful for this opportunity to represent my fellow pilots at Hawaiian Airlines and pledge my utmost efforts to protecting and enhancing our careers. My goals as MEC chairman are to work with Hawaiian Airlines management to maintain our unparalleled safety record and recognize the valuable contributions the pilots and other employees at our airline have made to make Hawaiian’s 71-years a reality."

First Officer Tindall flies the 300-passenger DC-10 on trans-Pacific routes to the U.S. mainland and other South Pacific islands. Tindall received his pilot training in the U.S. Navy where he served for 20 years, prior to joining Hawaiian Airlines in 1992. A resident of Kapolei on Oahu, Tindall has been an active ALPA member since 1993, most recently serving as the chairman of Hawaiian pilots’ strike committee during the latest round of contract negotiations, which concluded in December 2000.
