Comair ALPA Pilots Host Rally to Announce Settlement Offer Results

CINCINNATI -- Comair pilots, represented by the Air Line Pilots Association, International, will host a rally on Monday, March 19 for pilots and their families, at which the results of balloting on Comair management's settlement offer will be announced.

On February 23, the National Mediation Board (NMB) released Comair pilots and management into a 30-day cooling-off period that is scheduled to expire at midnight on Sunday, March 25. If the pilots do not approve management's settlement offer and the parties are unable to reach agreement on a new contract by that time, pilots could initiate a job action at 12:01 a.m. on March 26.

The NMB released the parties from federal mediation on the condition that ALPA submit Comair management's settlement offer to the pilot membership for a vote. The Comair pilots' Master Executive Council (MEC), the ALPA leadership body at Comair, was required by the NMB to submit the settlement offer to the pilot group with either a positive recommendation or a neutral stance. The MEC chose to distribute the settlement offer with a neutral stance.

Comair pilots began negotiations in June 1998, and entered NMB mediation in September 1999.

Formed in 1931, ALPA is the world’s oldest and largest pilots union, representing 59,000 airline pilots at 49 carriers in the United States and Canada.
