Media Advisory: Atlantic Southeast Pilots to Conduct Informational Picketing to Show Support for Striking Comair Pilots

Uniformed pilots of Atlantic Southeast Airlines, represented by the Air Line Pilots Association, International, will conduct informational picketing on May 30, 2001, at the Atlanta Hartsfield Airport. Though not on strike themselves, the ASA pilots want to call attention to the pilots’ strike at Comair, which began on March 26. Like the ASA pilots, ALPA-represented Comair pilots fly modern jet aircraft for a wholly owned subsidiary of Delta Air Lines.

Since 1998, the Comair pilots have been trying, unsuccessfully, to negotiate a labor contract with management. Comair is one of the world’s most profitable airlines, and can continue to generate enviable profits after satisfying its pilots’ needs. However, company management is refusing to provide its pilots with pay and benefits to be determined in the same manner as those of other airline pilots: based on the size and productivity of the aircraft they fly.

EVENT: ASA pilots’ informational picketing session to show support for the striking pilots at Comair.
