Gemini Air Cargo Cockpit Crewmembers Vote for ALPA Representation

WASHINGTON, DC---The cockpit crewmembers of Gemini Air Cargo Inc. have voted to be represented by the Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA).

Results of the ballot were announced yesterday in Washington by the National Mediation Board, the federal agency that oversees airline labor matters. Of the 286 Gemini Cargo crewmembers eligible to vote, 184 returned a ballot, with 170 voting for ALPA representation, two voting for other union representation, and there were 12 voided ballots.

Gemini, with corporate headquarters at Dulles International Airport outside Washington D.C., is an ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, and Insurance) contract freight provider serving worldwide markets from its base at Dulles. The company currently utilizes 12 DC-10-30F and four MD-11 aircraft.

Captain Linda Greco, an MD-11 pilot, and a member of the Crewmember Organizing Committee, commented on the vote by saying, "Our crewmembers believe membership in ALPA will help to bring needed stability to our work lives. Without effective union representation, we are exposed to continual and unpredictable changes to our work rules and benefits. We believe that, through ALPA, we will achieve collective bargaining agreements with the company that address our needs as employees while still providing management the operational flexibility it needs to remain competitive in the fluid and cyclical ACMI market."

ALPA is the world’s oldest and largest pilots union, representing 66,000 airline pilots at 47 airlines in the U.S. and Canada. Visit the ALPA website at www.alpa.org.
