Fedex Unit of ALPA Elects Union Officers

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Leaders of the FedEx Express unit of the Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA), have elected pilot officers to serve two-year terms beginning July 2. Following unanimous votes of the FedEx pilots’ union governing body, the Master Executive Council (MEC), Captain David Webb was re-elected chairman, Captain Wally Huggins was re-elected vice chairman and Captain Chris Baker was elected secretary-treasurer.

Captain David Webb has served as the Fedex MEC chairman since the June 2002 merger between ALPA and the Fedex Pilots Association (FPA). Prior to the merger with ALPA, he served as FPA president since 2001 and as a representative on the FPA Board of Directors. An Airbus A300/A310 pilot, Captain Webb began flying for FedEx Express in 1985. Prior to that Captain Webb flew for Eastern Airlines and served in the United States Air Force and South Carolina Air National Guard.

Captain Wally Huggins has served as MEC vice chairman since the June 2002 merger between ALPA and the FPA. He previously served as FPA vice president since 1999 and served one term as a representative on the FPA Board of Directors. Captain Huggins, who was hired by FedEx Express in 1985, is a pilot on the Airbus A300/A310. Prior to joining FedEx Express Captain Huggins served in the United States Marine Corps.

Captain Chris Baker currently serves as the Fedex MEC Grievance Committee chairman, a position he also held under the FPA starting in 1998. A DC-10 pilot, Captain Baker flew for Eastern Airlines and served in the United States Marine Corps prior to joining FedEx Express in 1986.

The Fedex Master Executive Council is made up of 12 representatives elected by the more than 4,000 FedEx pilots from bases in Memphis, Anchorage, Los Angeles and Subic Bay, Philippines, and is led by three officers. Founded in 1931, ALPA is the world's oldest and largest pilot union representing 66,000 pilots at 42 airlines in the U.S. and Canada. Visit the ALPA website at http://www.alpa.org.
