ALPA Supports FAA Effort to Update Pilots’ Flight and Duty Regulations

WASHINGTON–The Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA), today submitted its comments in support of modernizing the Federal Aviation Regulations concerning airline pilot flight duty and rest rules. ALPA actively participated in the Flight and Duty Time Limitations and Rest Requirements Aviation Rulemaking Committee (ARC) chartered by FAA Administrator Randy Babbitt last summer.

“For decades, airline pilots have endured the FAA’s outdated flight- and duty-time limits and minimum rest requirements,” said Capt. John Prater, ALPA’s president. “For far too long, some operators have shown little concern about pilots flying fatigued. I am pleased to submit our comments supporting the FAA’s effort to revise flight and duty rules based on scientific principles and our operational experience.”

Prater noted that ALPA’s comments are driven by current science and experience, which, when adopted, will provide pilots from all walks of commercial aviation the rest and duty limit provisions they need to be well rested and perform their flight duties safely.

Founded in 1931, ALPA is the world’s largest pilot union, representing nearly 53,000 pilots at 38 airlines in the United States and Canada. Visit the ALPA website at www.alpa.org.
