ATLANTA, GA--- Today, the 10 Local Executive Councils (LECs) of the Delta pilots’ union, represented by the Air Line Pilots Association International, met in Atlanta to elect new leadership for the pilots of Delta Air Lines. With today’s election, the Delta Master Executive Council (MEC), the governing body of the airline’s 12,300 pilots, passed the baton from Chairman Captain Lee Moak to Captain Tim O’Malley.
Captain O’Malley, a Detroit based international 767 pilot, was elected to the position of MEC Chairman. Captain Jim Van Sickle, a New York City based international 767-400 pilot, was re-elected MEC Vice Chairman; FO Kevin Guilfoyle, an Atlanta based international 767 pilot, was elected MEC Secretary; and Captain Kingsley Roberts, an Atlanta based 737-800 pilot, was re-elected MEC Treasurer. The officers assume their new duties January 1, 2011.
Captain O’Malley was hired by Delta in 1990 and served most recently as the Delta MEC Negotiating Chairman and ALPA Collective Bargaining Committee Chairman. Prior to Delta, he served in the U.S. Air Force as an F-4 pilot.
Captain Van Sickle was hired by Northwest in 1984 and, prior to being elected MEC vice-chairman in 2009, served as a member of the Northwest MEC Negotiating Committee. He served in the U.S. Navy flying P-3s and in the Naval Air Reserves. He is a retired commander.
F/O Kevin Guilfoyle was hired by Delta in 1997 and has served most recently as Special Projects Coordinator for the Delta MEC. Prior to Delta, he served in the U.S. Air Force as an A-10 pilot.
Captain Roberts was hired by Delta in 1988 and has served as the Delta MEC Treasurer and MEC Secretary-Treasurer. Prior to Delta, he served in the U.S. Air Force as a C-130 pilot.
“The Delta pilots have faced many obstacles and opportunities over the past several years in what continues to be a very challenging and dynamic industry,” Capt O’Malley said. “I look forward to working closely with the team of newly elected officers, the Delta Master Executive Council and the Delta pilots as we face the challenges and opportunities ahead. I have every confidence that by working together, we will succeed.”
