ALPA’s McAhron-Schulz Appointed to DOT Future of Aviation Advisory Committee
WASHINGTON – Ana McAhron-Schulz, director of the Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA) Economic and Financial Analysis Department, has been appointed by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) to participate on its newly established Future of Aviation Advisory Committee.
“ALPA is honored that Ana McAhron-Schulz was chosen to serve on the DOT’s Future of Aviation Advisory Committee,” said Capt. John Prater, ALPA’s president. “We are pleased that airline pilots have a seat on this important advisory team and believe that ALPA can contribute significantly to the Administration’s efforts to develop transportation policies that benefit employees, passengers, airlines, and our economy.”
The Future of Aviation Advisory Committee, which is charged with identifying the most important issues facing the U.S. airline industry today, will consist of 19 members. McAhron-Schulz has been appointed to one of three seats given to labor representatives.
The Committee will present information, advice, and recommendations to the Secretary of Transportation on ensuring the competitiveness of the U.S. aviation industry and its capability to address the evolving transportation needs, challenges, and opportunities of the global economy. To achieve the Committee’s goals, ALPA calls for a five-point government policy that will:
Create a national aviation policy as part of a U.S. transportation policy;
Establish a single, high level of safety and security for all passenger and cargo airlines;
Develop and maintain the best trained, most competent pilot workforce in the world;
Modernize the National Airspace System and build the Next Generation Air Transportation System; and
Forge a U.S. international aviation policy that provides an effective balance among U.S. economic, security, airline, and worker interests.
With more than 24 years of experience in the U.S. airline industry, McAhron-Schulz’s expertise includes evaluating corporate financial results and business plans, developing bargaining strategies and contract proposals on economic issues, and economic modeling and forecasting. McAhron-Schulz also serves as an industrial advisor to the International Federation of Airline Pilots’ Associations. She holds a B.A. in International Studies and Economics and an M.B.A. from The American University in Washington, D.C.
