Air Transat Pilots Reach a Tentative Contract with Management
Prospective Agreement is Contingent on Pilot Ratification

MONTREAL – The Air Line Pilots Association Int’l (ALPA), representing the pilots of Air Transat, a division of Transat A.T., confirmed today that they signed a tentative agreement with representatives of Air Transat management after more than eight months of intense negotiations. The agreement represents the fourth contract for Air Transat pilots since they joined ALPA in 1999.

“As partners in the success of these companies, we are pleased that Transat A.T. management chose to work with our pilots and other employees to encourage the growth of the company from within—as they’ve done in the past with notable success,” said Capt. Sylvain Aubin, chairman of the Air Transat unit of ALPA.

The basis of the tentative agreement between Air Transat pilots and management establishes the foundation for a fair and equitable work contract. Details of the settlement will not be released to the public until ratification by Air Transat pilots is complete. The Air Transat Master Executive Council (MEC) will take the tentative agreement to the pilot membership for a final ratification vote in early October.

“With unwavering support from our Union, ALPA Int’l, and the full backing of the Association’s resources, we were able to achieve our contract goals,” said Aubin. “The Air Transat MEC is hopeful that the membership will ratify the agreement and we look forward to implementing a new collective agreement with the Company if it is ratified by our members.”

Air Transat specializes in both scheduled and chartered flights from several Canadian cities to global vacation destinations. The pilots transport three million passengers annually to nearly 60 destinations in countries including Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland and Italy.

Founded in 1931, ALPA is the world’s largest pilot union, representing nearly 53,000 pilots at 38 airlines in the United States and Canada. Visit the ALPA website at www.alpa.org.
