Capt. Pete Frey Receives ALPA’s Aviation Safety Award
Danbury, Conn., Pilot Recognized for Outstanding Leadership

WASHINGTON—The Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA), will recognize Capt. Pete Frey with its 2010 Air Safety Award for his outstanding commitment to advancing air transportation safety. The award, which is the Association’s highest safety honor, will be presented today to Capt. Frey at ALPA’s 57th Air Safety Forum in Washington, D.C.

“For decades, ALPA pilots have been able to count on Capt. Frey’s formidable strengths as a mentor to his fellow safety volunteers and as a skilled and engaging instructor for ALPA’s accident investigation courses,” said Capt. Lee Moak, ALPA’s president.

As a long-time member of ALPA’s Accident Investigation Board, Capt. Frey has been a driving force in accident and incident investigations for many years. He has served as the course director of ALPA’s accident investigation course and coauthored and contributed to many of ALPA’s published accident analyses.

Recently, Capt. Frey garnered the praise of fellow pilots as the party coordinator for ALPA’s team participating in the National Transportation Safety Board investigation of the Colgan Air Flight 3407 accident. In that role, he worked side by side with the Colgan pilots, offering guidance and counsel throughout the investigation process. He led the on-scene ALPA response to the accident and worked countless hours coordinating the development and publication of ALPA’s analysis with the goal of preventing accidents and advancing safety.

A pilot for Delta Air Lines, Capt. Frey also currently serves as the chief accident investigator and accident analysis chair for the Delta pilots’ Central Air Safety Committee, a position he has held for more than a decade. He has also served as the Delta pilots’ safety chair at their New York base and as a member of the Delta pilots’ accident/incident hotline team.

Capt. Frey is an original member of the Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) Event Review Committee at Delta Air Lines. He was highly influential in establishing and implementing both the ASAP and Flight Operations Quality Assurance (FOQA) programs at Delta, and his safety advocacy extends throughout the Delta system. As a Central Air Safety Committee representative to Delta Air Lines’ Flight Safety Office, Capt. Frey has established a high level of trust that has resulted in the committee being swiftly notified of airline incidents and accidents.

“Airline accident investigators actively seek out Capt. Frey’s vast experience and depth of knowledge as they carry out their duties,” continued Capt. Moak. “His dedication and spirit set the standard for airline pilot professionalism in our industry.”

Founded in 1931, ALPA is the world’s largest pilot union, representing more than 53,000 pilots at 39 airlines in the United States and Canada. Visit the ALPA website at www.alpa.org.
